Yoshida, who joined the Darley roster in Japan this year, sired his first Black Type winner on Monday, 8 July when his son Desvio took the Listed Kent Stakes on the turf at Delaware Park in the US.
Settled in mid division during the early stages of the 2,200m contest , Devisio made his move approaching the final turn and outbattled Nomos and Spirit Prince in impressive fashion to win by half a length.
This was his third career victory, having broken his maiden on the dirt at Laurel in February of this year. He made his turf debut at Pimlico in May where he won easily and is definitely one to watch on this surface.
Desvio was bred by Eliza St George and Lee Mauberre and is out of the unraced Uncle Mo mare Fitzrovia, herself a daughter of G1 winner Marylebone.
Yoshida (Heart’s Cry) was the first Japanese horse to win the G1 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga and also won the G1 Turf Classic Staks at Churchill Downs.
Since his first crop his the track last year, he has sired 33 individual winners including fellow Stakes performers Yatta and Dual Wilder.
Yoshida’s fee for 2024 is 1.5 million yen.
