Darley Japan stallion Xaar sired the winner of the G1 Champions Mile on Monday April 25, when his four-year-old son Xtension won the showpiece at Sha Tin.
Originally trained in the UK by Clive Cox, he won the G2 Vintage Stakes as a juvenile before finishing a close fourth in the 2,000 Guineas. Then transferred to the Moore barn in Hong Kong he has been a model of consistency, never failing to hit the board in his five previous starts including a close second in the Hong Kong Derby.
Bred in Ireland by Paul McCartan, Xtension is out of the Stakes placed Grand Lodge mare Great Joy and from the family of US G1 winner Stephen Got Even.
Standing for one million yen this season, Xaar is the sire of 11 Group winners worldwide including the evergreen Balthazaar's Gift, winner of three G2 races including the Park Stakes in 2010.
