The winner of the G1 VRC Derby during his Classic season, four-year-old Storming Home entire Lion Tamer was having his second start of his current season, scoring an emphatic victory in the G1 Underwood Stakes over 1800m at Caulfield, Australia on September 17.
Starting first-up in his native homeland New Zealand with an excellent effort behind Horse of the Year Jimmy Choux, Lion Tamer crossed the Tasman to continue his G1 Melbourne Cup preparation.
Jumping out of the gates well and settling midfield for jockey Michael Rodd, Lion Tamer was pulled out wide as the field rounded the home turn. Just when it looked as if the leader Southern Speed had pinched too big a break on the rest of the field, the Murray Baker-trained Lion Tamer chased down the mare to score by a length-and-a-quarter.
Bred and owned by Mr P H P Bayly, Lion Tamer is out of the Generous mare Lioness and comes from the family of dual G1 winner My Blue Denim.
A triple G1 winner on the track, Machiavellian stallion Storming Home is also the sire of G1 Gran Premio di Milano winner Jakkalberry as well as fellow Stakes winner Flying Cloud, AtlanticStorm, Captain Webb and Mary’s Precedent.
