Jantar Mantar, a three-year-old son of Palace Malice, returned to the winners enclosure on Sunday, 5 May with victory in the G1 NHK Mile Cup. Run at Tokyo, he quickened clear in the final 400m to record a very easy two-and-a-half length win.
An unbeaten juvenile including winning the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes at Hanshin last December, Jantar Mantar has now won four of his six starts and has never finished outside the top three.
Owned and bred by Shadai, Jantar Mantar is the first foal bred out of the US G3 winner India Mantuana (Wilburn).
Palace Malice, who is standing this season at 3.5 million yen, won the G1 Belmont Stakes by over three lengths and the G1 Metropolitan Handicap at four. He is the sire of 13 Stakes winners including Noble Roger, winner of the G3 Nikkan Sports Sho Shinzan Kinen at Kyoto in January.
