First crop stallion Hawkbill sired his first winner on Wednesday, 24 August when his juvenile son Harry’s Hero easily won at Musselburgh in Scotland. Making his second career start after a debut third, he wasn’t troubled to record a two-and-a-half length victory in the seven-furlong contest.
Bred by W N Greig and a 12,000gns yearling purchase, Harry’s Hero is the second winner bred by the three-time victorious mare Flora Medici (Sir Percy).
Hawkbill currently stands at Darley Japan but his first crop was conceived at Dalham Hall Stud in England. Trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, Hawkbill won twice at the highest level, the Eclipse at Sandown as a three-year-old, and the Dubai Sheema Classic at five at Meydan, where he won by three lengths beating the Japan-trained trio Rey de Oro, Mozu Katchan and Satono Crown.
