Telperion, an improving son of Furioso, took the step up into International Stakes company in style on Saturday, 23 February when winning the Listed Nigawa Stakes at Hanshin. Run over 2000m on dirt, he was always prominent before extending to record a two length triumph.
He was winning his sixth career race and adding to his Open triumphs in the Sakai Stakes and Hibikinada Tokubetsu in 2018.
Bred by Tanikawa Stud, he is one of four winners, and the first at Stakes level, to be bred out of the Dance In The Dark mare Elbereth.
Standing at a fee of 0.5 million yen, Furioso won six G1s from the age of two to seven and was names NAR horse of the Year on four separate occasions. Like him, his progeny love to race and from three crops of racing age he has sired a very impressive 71% winners to runners.
