Wicked Strong dominates G1 Wood Memorial
Hard Spun colt Wicked Strong will surely be pointed towards the first Saturday in May after a powerful victory in the US $1 million G1 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct April 5. The colt is the third G1 winner for his Kentucky Derby runner-up sire.
In the one-and-one-eighth-mile race Wicked Strong comfortably settled five lengths off the pace in sixth. Rounding the far turn he turned up the heat, traveling wide and charging in the stretch to win going away in the final furlong.
Bred in Kentucky by William F. Lynn, Wicked Strong was a $375,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase. He is out of Moyne Abbey, a half-sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner Gulch Approval, Stakes winner and Graded-placed Approval Rating, and Graded Stakes-placed runner Highest Class.
A talented young sire by Danzig, Hard Spun sired two G1 winners in his first American crop in Eclipse Champion Questing and G1 Mother Goose Stakes winner Zo Impressive. He is the sire of 28 Stakes winners lifetime around the world.
