Silverette scintillating at Saratoga
Street Sense and Darley America stallion Hard Spun currently hold the top two spots on North American’s Leading Third-Crop Sire List for 2013. It’s seems only fitting that when two of their daughters, Silverette (by Street Sense) and Cap Spun (by Hard Spun), met in Saratoga’s Sportech Caress Stakes, they’d provide a similar result, finishing first and second. The win gives Silverette her second added-money victory of the year.
Silverette usually finds herself on or near the lead in most of her races and the five-and-a-half-furlong event on August 2nd was no different. Stalking the leaders in second during the race’s early stages, she took the lead entering the stretch and maintained about a length’s advantage at the wire with Hard Spun’s Cap Spun slightly eating into her lead as they crossed the finish.
A $290,000 yearling, Silverette was an impressive winner of the Red Cross Stakes at Monmouth two starts back and has won or placed in a total of four Stakes races this year. Bred by Grousemont Farm, the filly is out of Holy Lightning, who has also produced millionaire and Graded Stakes winner Going Ballistic. Silverette's second dam is Stakes winner Blazing Hot.
Street Sense is the sire of seven Stakes winners in 2013 who have combined to win 10 Stakes events. No other third-crop sire can top him in either category. Included among his added-money winners are G1 winner Aubby K, G2 winner/G1-placed Unlimited Budget as well as G3 winners Cigar Street and Ice Cream Silence.
Street Sense still remains the only horse to every complete the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile/Kentucky Derby double.
