Pero becomes eighth Stakes winner for his sire
Making his first start in Stakes company, five-year-old Storming Home gelding Pero produced the goods to claim the G3 Jewellery Handicap over a mile at Trentham, New Zealand on 27 October.
The winner of five races and a further seven placing's from 19 career starts, the Trina Riddell-trained Pero settled back in the field before jockey Hayden Tinsley weaved through the field to get up to score a long neck victory over his stable mate Zennista.
With four of his five wins coming over the mile, the gelding has shown he can match it over that distance, with connections keen to chase further Stakes races in the future.
Bred by D P & Mrs K C Fleming, Pero is out of the Stakes performed Prized mare Alyssum, a daughter of G3 winy Kay Row.
Storming Home is the sire of eight Stakes winners including G1 Gran Premio di Milano and G1 Melbourne Cup entrant Jakkalberry as well as the G1 Underwood Stakes and G1 VRC Derby winner Lion Tamer.
