There Goes Harvard schools his rivals in G3 San Marcos Stakes

Valiant son of Will Take Charge goes wire-to-wire to earn an impressive victory

There Goes Harvard was sent to the front right out of the starting gate by Frankie Dettori and the duo never looked back on their way to cruising to a three-and-a-quarter length victory in the G3 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday, 8 February.

The seven-year-old entire by Will Take Charge made a good impression in the 10-furlong turf contest, leading all the way while always racing well in-hand. The handsome chestnut is now a Graded Stakes winner on both turf and dirt, having also won the G1 Hollywood Gold Cup at four.

There Goes Harvard broke alertly and zipped right to the front to control the pace under a heady ride from Dettori. There Goes Harvard took some pressure from Lord Bullingdon and Atitlan on the backstretch but continued to maintain command into the far turn. He then shook free into the lane and drew off, eventually crossing the wire three-and-a-quarter lengths ahead of a late-rallying Easter. Lord Bullingdon held on for third.

There Goes Harvard was bred in Kentucky by Cannon Thoroughbreds LLC, and is out of the winning Fusaichi Pegasus mare, Soul Crusader. Second dam is the Graded Stakes winner, Michigan Bluff, who has also produced Stakes winners Hakeem and Let’s Go Cheyenne.

Will Take Charge has proven extremely popular with breeders since relocating to Japan, having covered over 170 mares in his first season there. In addition to There Goes Harvard, the stallion is also represented by additional North American Stakes winner, Stat.
