Darley Japan stallion Fantastic Light recorded his second Stakes winner in just four days on 17 February, when his three-year-old daughter La Fantastique landed the A$150,000 Tasmanian Oaks.
The Robert Smerdon-trained filly took the 2100m contest by a long neck from Exchanges (by Domesday, who stands at Darley Australia), with Giggleswick (Elusive Quality) a further length and three quarters back in third.
This was her second victory, having broken her maiden by no fewer than six lengths at Ballarat on 23 January.
Bred by Beauvest Pty Limited, La Fantastique is the first Stakes winner out of the Stakes-placed winning Bluebird mare Rainbow Blue. She is from the family of two more of Fantastic Light’s Black type performers in It’llbefantastic (who races in Hong Kong under the name Blazing Saddles) and Outlandish Lad.
Fantastic Light has now sired four Black type performers this year, including fellow Listed winner Livandar. La Fantastique becomes her sire's 27th individual Black type winner.
