Free As A Bird best in Intercontinental Stakes
After winning the License Fee Stakes last time out at Belmont, Hard Spun filly Free As A Bird returned to the course to make it two in a row in the Intercontinental Stakes June 8.
Free As A Bird was in an outside position, tracking the pace in the seven-furlong race on the turf. The filly set aim on the lead in the stretch and took the top position on the line for the score.
Five-year-old Free As A Bird is out of G3 Forward Gal Stakes winner and G1 Ashland-placed Take The Cake, who has also produced Stakes winner Let Me Entertain U. She is a homebred for Elizabeth Jones Valando.
A son of Danzig, Hard Spun is the sire of 11 Graded/Group winners thus far in his career. He is the sire of two G1 winners in April alone, after Wicked Strong impressed in the G1 Wood Memorial and Hard Not To Like in the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland. In addition, he is the sire of Eclipse Champion and G1 Alabama Stakes winner Questing and G1 Mother Goose Stakes winner Zo Impressive, among others.
