Darley has announced the fees for its eight stallions that will stand at their stud in Japan for the 2014 season.
Hard Spun, who was announced as a new addition to the Japanese roster earlier this year and is already sire of three G1 winners including Eclipse Champion Questing and Zen-Nihon Nisai Yushun winner Someries, will head the roster at a fee of ¥4 million.
Also new for 2014 is Monterosso, record-setting winner of the 2012 $10m Dubai World Cup. Monterosso won the world’s richest race in a faster time than Victoire Pisa and Animal Kingdom and brings the elite sire line of Darley’s best stallion in Europe, Dubawi, to Japan. He will stand at a fee of ¥1.5 million.
Shotaro Kajiya, Darley’s Nominations Manager in Japan, said, “We had our best ever season in 2013 thanks to the support we received from our clients and the variety of stallions that we were able to offer breeders. Hard Spun is such a versatile stallion with his turf and dirt winners, and Monterosso, who defeated some outstanding rivals in the Dubai World Cup, bring yet more depth to our roster and offer breeders excellent opportunities. Demand for King's Best this year was overwhelming as his progeny have continued to excel on the track. He gets a star every year and his 13 stakes winners of 2013 include dual G1-winner Sajjhaa. Pyro, whose fee remains unchanged, also deserves special mention as his first crop has made a particular impression this year.”
